We celebrated our 75th birthday at our May meeting with wine and cake.
Our visitor Christine Hickman-Smith WIA invited us all to her coffee morning on Tuesday, June 15, in aid of the Cobalt Unit Appeal in the fight against cancer.
The weather was fabulous for our St George's Day celebrations and we had a superb afternoon joining with Hillside and Hopwood WIs serving tea, sandwiches and cakes to the villagers of Alvechurch.
Julie Kirkbride MP and her son also joined in our celebrations, chatting to villagers during the afternoon.
Members were reminded of our fund-raising evening for Associated Country Women of the World - Water for All Project on August 9 at Alvechurch Cricket Club, tickets £7.
Our speaker for the evening was Joy Pinder who gave a talk entitled Who'd be a Head Teacher?
She began her career in the police force, went on to have two children and then decided to enter the teaching profession.
After three of the hardest years of her life in teaching practice, she started teaching in Balsall Heath, which was a tough challenge.
She went on to tell us of her many experiences of pupils and staff and how she ended up teaching in an inner city school in Birmingham. She was an excellent speaker and extremely interesting.
Pam Horsfield gave the vote of thanks.
Visitors are always made to feel welcome.
We meet every second Monday in the month in Alvechurch Village Hall at 7.30pm.
