STOURPORT'S last pair remained stubborn but the winning draw for Cookley still lifted them off of the foot of Division Two.

In Monday's derby, Cookley made a poor start and slumped to 80-6 with only New Zealander Greg Arnold batting with any distinction.

But Matt Goode (34) and the experienced Andy Parker (71) retrieved the situation and enabled the villagers to post a reasonable total of 186-9.

Lee Shewry was in good form with the ball, taking 6-38, but the Lea Lane men could not shift the last pair and had to settle for a winning draw with Stourport on the brink at 165-9.

Cookley earned 15 points and Stourport eight but both still hover dangerously above the final place which is occupied by Kidderminster Victoria.

Cookley 186-9, Stourport 165-9.

A much improved batting display from Cookley seconds in Stourport on Monday failed to stop their stay at the bottom of the division.

Adam Matthews was again in good form with 28 runs, putting on 77 for the first wicket with Ferrington.

Martin Goode, making his first appearance of the season, continued the good work with 35 and a quick-fire 50 from Rob Hunter helped Cookley to 208-9. Matt Roberts claimed 5-39 with the ball.

Stourport's openers put their team on the victory path with a solid partnership and, although wickets fell at regular intervals, the home team recorded a three-wicket win.

Pete Harrison blasted 42 runs as they registered the full 24 points to go fifth in the table.
