TEAS FOR ADVENTURE: The afternoon teas fund-raising event in the village hall run by Hannah Small and Sophie Langman last Saturday afternoon was a big success, well supported by a lot of people anxious to show their encouragement for the girls' planned working visit to Ghana. Their eight week stay, part of one of the programmes devised by Madventure, a help-aid company based in Newcastle, will begin when they fly out to Africa on July 5. The money raised on Saturday, well in excess of £300, will be put towards meeting their expenses and they were delighted with this result, warmly thanking everybody who had helped them, who had made cakes, given raffle prizes, worked in the kitchen or simply come and bought what was on offer.
The church's annual village fete is on Saturday, June 12. And it is hoped that villagers are ready to give their usual generous support. Held this year in the playing field as well as the village hall, the event will begin at 1.45pm with an introduction by the Celebration Reed and Brass band; the field will be officially opened at 2pm by Dr Hugh Nunn and the fete opened immediately afterwards by the Rev Richard Thorniley.
An entrance fee of 50p will be charged for adults; children will be admitted free. Teas will be on sale in the village hall but all other activities will take place on the field area. Inquiries to Sophie Dodds on 870421.
