CYCLING: Dave Wood beat the hour in his first attempt at the Ogmore Valley Wheelers 25-mile time trial on Sunday.
Wood finished in 56 minutes 11 seconds at Glenneath, Wales, to make the best of perfect conditions after setting fast personal best times at 10 miles already this season.
Richard Pedersen also finished inside the hour for the first time with a career best of 58-44, smashing his previous record by more than four minutes.
Rob Cole completed the trio of Wyre Forest Cycle Racing Club sub-hour riders with a season's best of 59-48.
Mike Nicol recorded his fastest time for more than 30 years of one hour 5-41 and Mick Gray finished in 1-08-12, his best performance for four years.
The overall winner was Gavin Pardoe, of Stourbridge CC, in 50-47.
The previous day, Steve Burns continued his good form to finish second at Wythall in the Warwickshire RC 10-mile time trial in a season's best time of 21-26 with Ian Smith seventh in 21-57.
Jon Howard also produced a season's best 22-05 and Chris Morris finished in 22-18, despite being held up by traffic at an island.
Pedersen had a personal best ride of 23-24, knocking 33 seconds off his previous, while overall winner was Roger Iddles, of Stourbridge CC, in 20-38.
James Smith represented Wyre Forest in the British Triathlon National age group sprint championships on Sunday around the 750 metre Arrow Valley Lake in Redditch.
Smith worked his way through the field on a 20km ride, holding his position on the final 5km run to finish 20th out of 292.
Morris raced to his fourth victory in the Tuesday evening club time trial series, storming around the 10-mile Great Witley circuit.
The Stourport man set a new course record of 23-18, while Howard was second in 24-16 and Wood third in 24-55.
