UNFORGETTABLE rock legends and rather regrettable fashion faux pas were equally celebrated when the 1970s-themed Evesham Carnival came to town.
The town's streets were packed with people brave enough to revisit the decade that spawned bell-bottoms, platform shoes, horrific hairdos and copious amounts of glitter. The event, held every two years, raises money for local charities and is organised by the Round Table.
The parade's 'guest star' was the original Chitty Chitty Bang Bang car featured in the film of the same name. Two lucky competition winners, Luke Gittos and Becky Fowler, won the chance to ride in the car during the procession. Tributes were also paid to music greats like Elton John and Bob Marley, as well as the BBC. Carnival committee chairman Andrew Laver said: "The day went really well - the weather was good for us and all sorts of people took part in the procession. The High Street, Riverside and all Swan Lane was full of people and everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves which is fantastic." Organisers estimate that around £1,600 will be donated to local charities as a result of the donations and sponsorship. Mr Laver added: "The support we had from the community and local businesses has been amazing."
