A BID to secure £500,000 for Bewdley High School has taken a step closer to its target with a fund-raising quiz night.
More than £5,000 was raised at the event, at the Ramada Hotel in Bewdley last month, putting the school on course to receive the cash.
The school has to raise £50,000 by September to stand a chance of getting the lump sum, giving it specialist school status in English, history and citizenship.
School governor, Dale Parmenter, has led the bid and brought in Hartlebury-based events company, DRP, where he is managing director, to stage the event.
He said: "DRP produced the stage, visuals and sound, set the quiz questions and produced videos to support the 'what happened next' section of the quiz.
"A total of 10 teams took part in the quiz, which included other organisations, such as Barclays Bank and Thomas Vale, along with other sponsors.
"The evening was great, everyone really enjoyed themselves, and we were delighted to give our support to the school."
Mr Parmenter said about £30,000 had now been raised for the campaign, which was launched last year but failed to meet the first cut-off date at the end of March.
On July 2, all 670 pupils and staff will take part in a sponsored walk around Bewdley to help raise the rest of the cash.
