WE have all read the story about the 14-year-old girl who underwent an abortion and didn't feel able to talk to her mum.
At Parentline Plus, we hear from many parents who find it difficult to talk to their children about sex.
Last year, thousands of parents rang our helpline to talk about issues concerning their children's sexual activity and relationships.
Evidence suggests that when children and young people talk to their parents about sex and relationships, they are more likely to delay sexual activity, have fewer partners and use contraception.
However we know that parents can find it difficult to get the conversation going and that they are looking for help doing this.
We would like parents to know that there is help on hand for them. Parentline Plus runs a campaign called Time to Talk which has been specifically developed to support parents in talking to their children about sex and relationships.
It gives parents the props and strategies which will easily allow them to open, and to keep open, communication with their children whatever their age.
Parents can contact us on our free, 24-hour helpline 0808 800 2222, e-mail us on contact@ parentlineplus.org.uk or look at the tips on our website on www.parentline plus.org.uk
