A PIANIST who combines a career as a soloist and chamber musician with music education, lecturing and writing is to perform at Kidderminster Library.

Duncan Honeybourne, who has given solo recitals throughout the UK and Ireland, will include pieces by Greig, Brahms and Chopin during his Kidderminster visit, on Friday, June 11.

The recital is being arranged by Kidderminster's Classical Music Society.

Known as an interpreter of English piano music, Duncan has had several new works written for him and given numerous first performances. His talent has also been heard on the airwaves, with broadcasts on BBC Radio 3.

He is now a tutor in piano at Bryanston School in Dorset, as well as performing and teaching in the music department at Bournemouth University and teaching piano in other Dorset schools.

Prior to that, following his graduation, he had been piano teacher at The Downs School, Malvern.

Born in 1977, he won a scholarship to the Royal Academy of Music Junior Department, where he earned the senior piano prize at the age of 17.

He graduated from Birmingham Conservatoire with a BMus first class honours degree.

Duncan made his debut to critical acclaim as a soloist at Symphony Hall, Birmingham, followed by an appearance at the National Concert Hall, Dublin, in 1998.

It is a busy year for him, with a string of solo recitals throughout Britain and duo recital tours with the Romanian pianist, Madaline-Alexandra Rusu.

His repertoire for his Kidderminster recital will consist of Greig's Wedding Day at Troldhaugen, Joubert's Piano Sonata no 1, Brahms's Variations and Fugue on a theme of Handel, op 24. Following an interval, he will resume with Toduta's Passacaglia and Chopin's Piano Sonata no 3 in B minor, op 58.
