THE Severn Valley Railway's century-old bridge at the line's Bridgnorth station has been renovated with the backing of £35,000 contributed through building society proceeds.
The money was channelled into the work from the West Bromwich Building Society's Severn Valley Branch Savers Account, which it runs on behalf of the railway.
Since the savings scheme was introduced five years ago, the railway has benefited to the tune of over £75,000, which has been used to refurbish buildings, a railway dining car and the footbridge at Bridgnorth.
The recent bridge upgrading included dismantling and removing the footbridge so it could be taken to a workshop for renovation. Steps and floors have also been improved.
