A RECITAL at Kidderminster Library later this month will mark a homecoming for Julian Barber.

The Kidderminster-born pianist is one half of a duo that includes violinist, Tomas Tulaceki, who comes from the Czech Republic.

They are playing at the library on Saturday, June 26, featuring mainly works by Dvorak, including Sona Tina and Sonata in F.

The choice of Dvorak was inspired by the 100th anniversary of the composer's death, which is being marked this year.

Julian said there would be more to the programme performed at Kidderminster, explaining: "We will be doing other stuff by Dvorak's contemporaries, with Tchaikovsky's Meditation and Greig's Violin Sonata in G."

Julian, 35, was educated at Lea Street and Sladen Middle schools in Kidderminster and played as a cellist with Worcestershire Youth Orchestra before moving to London, where he has been for the past 16 years.

He studied piano at London College of Music and has since gone on to tour throughout Europe, playing in countries such as Slovenia and Hungary.

He has been back to Kidderminster, two years ago, for a concert at the town library.

Together with Tomas, who was born in Prague, he specialises in music from the turn of the 19th into the 20th century, as well as 20th century works.

Tomas attended the Music Academy in Prague and has played for the Prague Opera Company.

He went to the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London and has worked for the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra.

The Kidderminster Library concert begins at 7.30pm and tickets will be available on the door or in advance by contacting Julian on 0771 4275532.
