A CENTRAL Trains worker who skated 11 miles around a Welsh lake for charity has vowed never to travel on eight wheels again.
Simone Carter swapped rail knowledge for roller boots to go around Lake Vrynwy in mid-Wales, even though she could not skate.
And despite the Foregate Street advice clerk feeling in real pain from her madcap efforts, she has raised nearly £1,500 for cerebral palsy charity Scope.
Her husband Steve joined her on a cycle to help her through the challenge, which took Simone around two-and-a-half hours to complete.
Her challenge was all the more remarkable, as the last time she had tried to skate was at 15, when she fell over and broke her wrist.
"All I can say is, never again.
"I have never known pain like it. My poor hubby rode his bike one-handed as he had to hold my hand all the way round. Three days later I was still aching really badly," she said.
"I really didn't expect it to be that painful and I discovered muscles I didn't know I had."
The couple are attempting a joint bid to raise £2,400 for the charity, with Steve cycling the Pyrenees in September.
They raised a similar amount last year, when Simone walked up Mount Snowdon and Steve cycled the Swiss Alps.
The intrepid duo are still raising funds. Anyone wanting to sponsor them can contact Mrs Carter on 07729 830147.
