A BUSY Worcestershire road is expected to be closed for much of the day while road repairs are carried out following a double fatality in the early hours of yesterday morning.
Two lorry drivers were killed when their vehicles collided on the A44, near Pershore.
The articulated lorries, one carrying magazines and the other fruit, met head-on at around 3.50am yesterday between Egdon crossroads and the Peopleton turning.
"The impact of the crash means extensive repairs to this section of the road are needed," said a council spokesman.
"The work will be carried out today, and we expect the road to be re-opened later this afternoon, although we cannot give an exact time."
A police spokesman said the drivers' families had been notified.
"We have informed the next of kin of both drivers, but formal identification has not yet taken place, and is not expected to for a while yet," he said.
"Until then, we cannot release any more details."
Anyone with any information should call Worcester Police on 08457 444888.
