I REFER to the article in the paper of May 21 about the farmers employing foreign students to pick fruit.
We attended a planing meeting in April in which both applicants and objectors stated their case. It is monstrous that big business is attempting to push the planners around with such a huge development at Brierley Court. There should be large fines imposed and mandatory demolition. However, this is half the story.
Many people in this county are objecting to the acres and acres of plastic used to prolong the soft fruit season. Herefordshire has more acres of plastic than any county, other than Kent, we are told.
If you don't want more acres of plastic, don't buy the fruit out of season. The natural strawberry season June/July is quite long enough for me. Unfortunately we cannot be at the meeting on June 10.
