The owner of farmland next to North Site is pressing to have up to 130 homes built on it, as an addition to the redevelopment of the former army base.

Malvern Hills District Council is being asked to extend the boundary of the planned development to include land at neighbouring Cales Farm.

The council has already included provision for 390 homes at North Site in its draft Local Plan, which outlines a vision for development in the district.

The Cales Farm proposal has emerged in an objection to the plan, which will be the subject of a hearing by Government inspectors later this year.

David Crofts, from RPS Planning, Transport and Environment, retained as agents by Cales Farm, said he felt proposed plans for North Site were too vague and needed to identify more specific housing and employment areas in order to comply with recently approved planning legislation.

"The Local Plan makes insufficient provision for development for both housing and employment. In order to make that provision, the best option would be for the council to create a larger allocation to North Site by extending it to the west," he said.

Mr Crofts said the land would have room for 120 to 130 houses and four to five hectares of employment space.

Commenting on the proposal, Cow-leigh Bank resident Christine Bannister said local people were concerned about traffic from the existing plans.

"To increase that by another 120 houses is intolerable," she said. "Traffic is the big worry. We don't want this countryside encroached any more."

MHDC declined to comment.
