WORCESTERSHIRE Golf Club captain Ron Richardson was blessed with a beautiful sunny day for his captain's day tournament.
With the course in pristine condition, the day was ideal for golf. In the Stableford Competition, the scores were of a high order. Junior golfer Simon Lane, a Division One player, returned the best gross score of the day, 34 points, to win the captain's prize. Simon's score also gained him third place in the division.
The winner of Division One was another of the Club's junior golfers, Andy Dunster, who scored a very creditable 40 points. Local general practitioner, Andrew Meredith, was in good form to gain second place with a score of 38 points.
The Division Two winner returned the best score of the day when Dave Turner carded an incredible 42 points.
Mark Davies was second with 40 points and in third place was James Daly, who scored 38 points.
The winner of Division Three with a score of 38 points was Dr Euan McClennand. Simon Long was second with 37 points and Chris Hughes third with 36 points.
Captain's day was quickly followed by the captain's charity day, in which teams of four players competed and, at the same time, raised substantial money for two local hospices, St Michael's and Acorns.
Several celebrities played, including professional jockeys Carl Llewellyn, Phillip Hide and Mick Fitzgerald.
Presently the club has a high standard of junior golfers and no team could compete with the excellent performance returned on the day by the young golfers.
The team of Steve Lane, Jamie Dunster, John Wynn and Dan Long were in superb form and supporting each other throughout their round, they walked away with the first prize.
These four exceptionally talented junior golfers will now enjoy, as their prize, a day's golf on the Brabazon championship course at The Belfry.
Taking advantage of the recent fine weather, many members entered the Mid-week Medal Competition
