BARNARDS Green Thirds travelled up to Brintons Park to play the high-flying Bewdley on Saturday.

BEWDLEY v BARNARDS GREEN III

Skipper Cyril Dean won the toss and inserted the opposition in the hope that the slightly damp wicket would dry out.

Rob Tyler and Patrick Jelley opened the bowling and although Jelley found a good rhythm and kept the slips interested, Tyler frequently dropped short and was punished. Jamie Longmore was introduced and managed to snare a wicket but at quite a cost.

Skipper Dean turned to the father and son tandem of Dave and Adam Price and while Dave plugged away at one end, young Adam found superb bounce and turn in achieving 1-21 off six overs.

The Bewdley batsmen all managed to find the short boundry quite regularly but the wily Robin Longmore poached three wickets for an impressive 27.

Again Patrick Jelley was brought back to bowl at the death and yet again bowled superbly to finish with 2-30 off his 11 overs.

The Green were happy to be chasing 227 when a score of 250 plus looked to be on.

The reply, Lee Dyment and Nick Rogers got Green off to a sound platform before Dyment got a leading edge to go for 24.

Richard Birch went in next and played very straight and correct before going for 18 whilst Rogers at the other end was happily slapping the ball to the boundry and frustrating the Bewdley bowlers.

Skipper Dean came back down to earth with a zero which brought in Mark Perkins, who happily nudged the ball around whilst Rogers got to his maiden 100 finally finishing on a very tired 138.

With only single figures required required Perkins flicked a couple to the boundary and saw the Green home with 10 overs to spare to end on 25no.

A great 20 points collected against a previously 100 per cent side.

Tomorrow (Saturday) Green Thirds are at home to Kidderminster Victoria.
