DUMBLETON won the toss and elected to field on a damp wicket.
COLWALL II v DUMBLETON II
Berry and Bishop opened the batting and found it very difficult especially as the ball was swinging and keeping low. However Berry (40) punished the loose ball with some lovely drives enabling Colwall to push the score on. However the introduction of Smith (3-28) changed matters as Colwall slumped from 49-0 to 65-4. Eddie Hill set about attacking the bowling with some powerful drives but wickets continued to tumble.
Bailey (11) assisted Hill as they put on 32 for the 7th wicket during which time Eddie Hill (60) scored his 50. Debutante Chris Wheeler batting at number ten scored 13, including a huge six over mid-on. With the aid of Derek Brimmell (2no) Chris Wheeler steered Colwall to 177 to gain Colwall an extra batting point.
Colwall started their bowling well with Bailey (2-34) bowling Court in the second over. Despite tight bowling from Mike King (0-31 off 11) and excellent fielding, in particular Mike King and Chris Wheeler, Dumbleton's McHardie-Jones (40) and Benson (52) put on 105 for the second wicket. However the two batsmen fell to 15-year-old Chris Wheeler (2-50), who bowled an excellent rapid spell and would have taken more wickets if he was not limited to five overs.
Hunter (16) and Reid (27) provided stubborn resistance but Reid fell towards the end to some tight bowling by Berry, which provided Colwall with an extra bowling point. Dumbleton eventually reached Colwall's score with five wickets intact.
Although Colwall were disappointed to lose they still managed to take six league points.
Tomorrow (Saturday) Colwall II entertain Swindon at Stowe Lane.
