MEMBERS of Powick Guild visited Castlemorton Common for their June meeting. It was a hot day but the cool breeze blowing off the pool at Golden Valley and the peaceful surroundings made a very pleasant afternoon. A brief stroll was made around the area, ending with a bring and share tea. The AGM will be held on Tuesday, July 13 at Powick Parish Hall at 2.30pm when future activities will be decided.

Powick Playing Field Association holds its annual summer fete and children's sports on Saturday, July 17, from 1pm, at the playing field. There will be the usual exciting attractions - bouncy castle, skittles, cakes, bottle stall, plants, white elephant, toys, books etc. This year there will also be a car boot. Barbecue and a bar will be available, plus cream teas and ice cream. Admission is 50p, under-11s are free.

n UPTON band Neitherbignorclever will be hosting an all-day gig at the Church Rooms on July 10. The gig will raise money for the WaterAid charity and features around 15 bands, including My Deaf Audio, De Montfort and Nuthin Yet. It runs from 1pm to 10pm and tickets cost £5 or £6 on the door. n Peppercorns Youth Group holds a car boot sale at the sports field, off Old Street, Upton, on Sunday between noon and 4pm. Entry is £5 for cars, £6 for vans and £7 for trailers. For more information, call Porla Hickman on 01684 591392.

n MORE than £20,000 was raised by the Upton branch of the NSPCC at a midsummer ball at Severn End on June 19. The event also included an auction of promises. Around 300 people attended and chairman Sara Kitching said the group was delighted at the response.

n A FAMILY trip to Eurodisney will be the top prize in a raffle to raise money for Upton Water Festival. Tickets are £1, available from Gifted, the Tourist Information Centre and Roses Corner. The raffle will be drawn at 5pm on August 29.

n UPTON Baptist Church has been given planning permission to reposition the walls of a toilet block and install a disabled toilet in the church, on Old Street.

n A FARMERS' market will be held take place at The Waterside, Upton, on Friday, July 9, from 9am to 2pm.

n UPTON Baptist Church will hold a bring and share lunch on Monday (July 5). The event will start at noon in the church garden.
