A riddle: Q: You get 128 for £1 and they are sure to last you for at least two months. What are they? A: The questions in Rosemary's summer holiday quiz.

This competition quiz, devised by our energetic deacon Reverend Rosemary Herbert to raise money for the St James's Church fabric fund, seems sure to lead to a lot of headscratching and brow-furrowing in West Malvern households, and could be an ideal way for the family to while away those wet days on holiday!

Forms can be obtained from Rosemary on her village rounds, or from her home address, 4 Cedar Avenue, Malvern Link WR14 2SG; copies are also available in the church. The closing date for answers will be September 5, either to be left in the church or returned to Rosemary by post. Prizes will be awarded for the best entries. Rosemary says people should send their answers in even if they haven't answered every question. Some hope!

West Malvern is about to have a second deacon, but not one who will be working in the village. Congratulations to Ann Lanyon-Hogg of Lower Road, who will be ordained as a deacon of the Church of England at Hereford Cathedral on Sunday. Mrs Lanyon-Hogg, who teaches at St James's girls' school, will "serve her title" in the parishes of Colwall and Coddington.

A strawberry tea will be held at St James's Primary School at 3.15pm on Thursday, July 8, organised by the Parents, Teachers & Friends Association. There will be a variety of stalls and everyone will be welcome to come.
