A new outdoor play and education centre is the latest addition at Malvern Hills Primary School.

The £6,000 facility will be officially opened at 2.30pm on Wednesday (July 7).

The fenced-off area is already being used to provide very young children with a safe place to play and learn.

It is located at the front of the school and was created from a paved area that served no real purpose.

The site was transformed thanks to capital funding made available in the school's budget. It consists of a grassy area with some paving and flowerbeds.

The project, which was overseen by the Bishops Wood Environmental Centre, in Stourport, began a year ago.

"We planted the flowerbeds at Easter and had some of the younger pupils help to plant the smaller flowers," said headteacher Gill Samuels.

"The children are helping with the ongoing weeding and are already growing sunflowers and beans in the beds.

"There are so many opportunities for the nursery and reception children to take their lessons outside - it encourages children to be actively learning and is much healthier for all."

Worcestershire's director of education Julien Kramer will unveil a commemorative plaque at the opening ceremony. This will be followed by a display of singing and dancing by pupils.
