DEAN Bennett says his shock decision to leave Kidderminster Harriers and join Wrexham was not about money.
The midfielder insists his move is about playing at a higher level rather boosting his pay packet.
The 26-year-old, who joined Harriers for £30,000 from Bromsgrove Rovers in August 1999, said: "It was a very hard decision as I've had five and a half great years at Kidderminster, but it's always been my ambition to play at a higher level."
Bennett, who has signed a two year deal with Division One outfit Wrexham, added: "I'm no different to anybody in any line of business.
"You always want to test yourself at a better level to see if you can make the grade.
"I'm no different and I just felt that a my age, it was a case of now or never."
Harriers' manager Jan Molby said: "I understand and appreciate Dean wanting to prove himself at a higher level, that's only human.
"What I am not happy with is he told me he was going to stay."
Meanwhile, former Kidderminster midfielder Graham Ward is having a trial with Cheltenham Town. Another ex-Harriers player, Hugh McAuley, has agreed to join Aldershot.
