MARK Owen and James Smith both scored twice last night as Worcester City's reserves defeated Pershore Town 4-2 after extra-time in the first round of the Worcestershire Senior Urn at St George's Lane.

It was Owen's first start since injuring his right knee during City's pre-season defeat against Halesowen Town.

Town, managed by director of football Richard Anson following the sacking of Nigel Russell on Saturday, took a one-goal lead into half-time.

Owen then sent City in front with two second-half strikes before the visitors equalised late on to send the game into extra-time.

Smith scored in both periods to send his team through to the next round.

City reserve team boss Geoff Ashby said: "It was a very close game and Pershore made us work hard for the win. Mark did very well and lasted about 80 minutes when we took him off.

"We left him on as long as we could, but it's his first start of the season. Mark and James took their goals very well."
