GISCARD Pieters jets into Britain today to become Worcester's new wide boy.
The South African winger, who has enjoyed a fabulous individual Currie Cup campaign with the Pumas, will sign until the end of the season for the Warriors.
Pieters, who had a brief spell with Rotherham Titans last season in the Premiership, has been brought in to bulk up the Sixways squad and his ability to play either on the flank or at centre could prove vital with Ben Hinshelwood soon to link up with Scotland.
The 26-year-old is the third top try scorer in the Currie Cup this season after 12 touchdowns for the Pumas who have endured a disappointing campaign overall. Ironically, Pieters scored a try against Gloucester last season -- Worcester's next opponents.
The Warriors take on the Kingsholm side on Saturday at Sixways and Pieters could yet be included against the Cherry and Whites with Ben Gollings in danger of losing out.
"Pieters is a big, quick winger who will cause defences a problem," said Worcester's head coach Andy Keast. "He's been outstanding for the Pumas in the Currie Cup."
Worcester last week brought in New Zealand winger Sione Kepu on a three-month trial and the youngster impressed as he scored a debut try at Leeds on Sunday. However, Pieters could go straight into the team against Gloucester.
The 6ft 1in winger made his provincial debut in 1999 for the Griffons, beginning his unique association with Bulls wing partner Gavin Passens.
He moved with Passens to the Pumas in 2000 where their try-scoring feats continued and in 2001 followed Passens once more to the Blue Bulls where he was part of the Vodacom Cup winning team.
Meanwhile, Worcester are hoping that Chris Horsman will be available for the Gloucester clash. The prop, who has recovered from a broken hand, will take part in a full training session today.
"Chris will train today," said Keast. "We'll know a bit more after that but we're hopeful that he'll be available for selection."
n Evesham Rugby Club have been disqualified from this season's Powergen Junior Vase for fielding an ineligible player in their 22-0 first round home win over Bishop's Castle.
The decision means that Bishop's Castle will now play Dixonians in the second round on Saturday.
