Studley 2

Oldbury 1

WE'RE not here to make up the numbers - that was the message from Studley boss Kevin Rowlands after his young side chalked up an impressive victory over Oldbury on Saturday.

The Bees, who are still undergoing dramatic transition on and off the field, recorded their third victory of the season - thanks to Kevin Jones' well-worked winner.

And now Rowlands is confident that his emerging side can build from here for the rest of the campaign.

"We have a very young squad and we're up against an experienced side with a lot of good players who are on good money," said Rowlands.

"So to get this win, tells the rest of the league that we're not here just to make up the numbers and that we can really do something this season."

He added: "Above all, I am pleased for my players because they have worked so hard for this and deserve it.

''We have had a lot of people congratulating us, but they were probably the same people who were knocking us last week - so we're not going to take too much notice.

''Instead, we're going to focus in, believe in what we're trying to achieve here and carry on."

Jones set up Mark Neath to put Studley ahead after ten minutes before Jason Barton equalised on 33 minutes.

But with experienced 28-year-old centre-back Steven Hands, on loan from Evesham, marshalling things at the back, the Bees pushed forward and got their deserved winner 15 minutes before the end. This time, another loan player Justin Tyrell, held the ball up for Jones to fire home.

Meanwhile, defender James Beauchamp will come back into the frame for the trip to Oadby this Saturday (3pm) after being unavailable against Oldbury, but Rowlands is still hopeful of extending the loan spells of Evesham man Hands and Tyrell, who is contracted to Willenhall.
