I WAS really upset to find out that the collection at the funeral of my friend's husband, Bill Harrison, was not donated to the cause so close to his heart - the Poppy Day appeal. He took a very active part in the past with the financial running of the Droitwich branch of the British Legion, and his wife Nancy was an avid collector for the appeal.
I feel the Rev White could have mentioned at the end of the service that donations on the plate were for the church, but it was inadvertently misleading of the curate to place herself with the plate by the standard bearers giving the impression that the collection was for the British Legion.
As feeling is running so high amongst people who knew Bill, I would say that the kindest thing the Rev White could do before he moves to pastures new this Christmas, is to rectify this mistake. It can't be that difficult to send a cheque to the British Legion in Bill's memory.
