Kings Norton 28
Birmingham CS 7
THE final score of this hard-fought game fails to reflect how difficult Kings Norton found it to overcome their resolute opponents.
The visitors' scrummage gave the home side a torrid time, but failed to capitalise on their superiority due to a resolute home defence. Norton finally broke out after 15 minutes to open the scoring with a well-worked Matt Eagles effort.
But the visitors burst through the Kings defence just ten minutes into the second half to score a converted try under the posts.
Kings brought on veteran Botswanian international Phil Fergus in the scrum and Norton finally began to create some good possession.
Winger Hefford squeezed in the corner and Whitehouse, who had come on for Owen Brian-Williams, kicked a penalty to take his team into a 13-7 lead.
Kings finally took control as their superior fitness gave them the edge, with Hefford,Waudby and Revell each scoring tries in a frantic last 10 minutes to ensure Kings remain as the only unbeaten team in the league.
On Saturday, Kings expect a tough encounter at home to higher league opposition Solihull in the second round of the Powergen Vase.
The club hosts it first floodlit county match at Hopwood Ground on Monday when the Constituent Body Under-18s take on East Midlands (7pm).
