MYSTERY surrounds how a 50-year-old man received a serious head injury on Saturday night outside a Matchborough pub.
The incident happened at about 7pm outside the Sticky Wicket pub, where the man had been drinking with his wife.
The man stepped outside the pub and then suffered the injury.
He was taken to the Alexandra Hospital and later transferred to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham, where he is currently in a critical but stable condition.
DS Brian Russell, of Redditch police, said: "I would like to hear from anyone who may have been passing the Sticky Wicket pub and saw this man outside.
"At the moment, we do not know how he sustained his injuries and we are keen to establish exactly what happened to him that night."
Anyone with information can call Redditch CID on 08457 444 888 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111."
