THE Palace Theatre is at the centre of events marking Black History month in Redditch.
Celebrations are taking place to mark the contribution black people have made to the town.
Spokesman for Redditch Black History Society June Sutherland said: "Black History Month celebrates the contribution black people have made in shaping society in terms of economic, social, cultural and political development.
"One of the things black people in Britain have been striving to do is establish rights of equality, fair treatment and justice.
"The month offers the opportunity to recognise black people's sacrifices and achievements. And it is a chance to take stock and evaluate the input and impact of the black experience."
On Friday, a group of singers called Black Voices will appear at the Palace, performing a mixture of musical styles from reggae to gospel.
The group has admirers including Lenny Henry, Nelson Mandella and Mo Mowlem.
Mrs Sutherland said: "Black Voices are a stunning group. We can't wait to see them returning to Redditch after hosting them some years ago."
The show, which costs £5 and £4 concessions, begins at 7.30pm.
On Saturday, October 23, the Palace hosts a documentary film premiere, Ting A Ling Caribbean Roots.
The film, spearheaded by the Descendants of Windrush (DOW) and Redditch Council, was made by a group of young people.
It explores the roots and culture of people who came from the Caribbean and settled in the town from the 1950s.
DOW chairman Veronica Allen said: "It's important for young people who are the third generation to learn about their ancestral roots and culture.
"It's important we have documentary evidence of our forebears because they paved the way for a new multicultural Britain."
The evening will be launched by author and columnist Dr Tony Sewell.
Union Dance will also be performing a range of different routines from breakdancing mixed with Brazilian martial art to contemporary dance.
The event, which starts at 7pm, costs £2 and tickets are available from the Information Centre or on 65203.
