CITIZEN OF THE YEAR: At a ceremony in Bishampton last Sunday, Mrs Sophie Dodds of Breslau, Leys Road, was honoured by the presentation of an award given by the Lions' organisation to a person who has been seen to have done much for the community in which he or she lives.
Lions' president Brian Egan presented the award. He spoke of the wide-reaching work that Mrs Dodds has done for the church, the village, and various charities, raising large sums of money and involving many members of the community in doing so. Thanking Mr Egan, Mrs Dodds said how honoured she feels to have been chosen for this award but she wished it to be known that, without the support and energetic help of innumerable people, she could not have achieved all of the results to which Mr Egan referred. It was the fact that her efforts always brought in so many other people, working together for a common cause, which most appealed to her. She is currently making plans for the St James' Christmas fair.
