CLEOBURY Mortimer have made a storming start to their Prosport National League Women Two campaign with two succcessive victories.
They kicked off with an impressive 3-2 win at Leeds's before beating Cambridge 3-1 at home to move to joint top of the table.
Despite having no substitutes and giving away a height advantage to most of Leeds towering squad of 12, Cleobury took the first set 25-21.
Although they lost the next two sets, they won the fourth to send the match into a decider which they won 15-5 thanks to the sterling serving of Ellie Body.
Against Cambridge, Cleobury confidently overcame their guests, with Ellie White the player of the match. Cleobury took the first set, lost the second and won the following two,showing some excellent spells of volleyball.
There was also joy for Cleobury men's team who started their West Midlands Volleyball League Division One season with a 3-1 victory over Telford and a 3-2 win over Wombourne.
The opening match saw a Cleobury squad made up of several new and veryyoung faces.
Despite losing the first set against Telford, Cleobury settled and won the next three with the raw power of Simon Eades and Paul Guest a decisive factor.
Cleobury were brimming with confidence against Wombourne despite having only ever beaten them once before.
Pinpoint passing from back court and precision setting from Carl Brookes allowed Eades and man-of-the-match Adam Bills to kill the ball and take set one 25-17.
Wombourne took the next set 25-22 and although Cleobury won the third 25-23, the Wombourne again pegged them back with a 25-23 win in the fourth.
But Cleobury kept their nerve to win the decider 15-6 and seal a memorable win after one hour and 43 minutes of play.
