STOURPORT may have bowed out of the Staffordshire Senior Cup this week but the penalty shoot-out defeat failed to take the shine off their weekend goal feast - a 5-0 drubbing of Paulton Rovers.

Sutton Coldfield Town booked their place in the next round of the competition after claiming the spot kick spoils 5-4, the managers agreeing to dispense with extra time at the end of their 1-1 draw.

Sutton's Exodus Geoaghan struck the winning kick past Swifts keeper Aaron O'Malley as the shoot-out went to sudden death.

Dave Berks had given the visitors, who Swifts meet at Coles Lane for a league game this weekend, a 10th minute lead but this was cancelled out by Paul Lloyd who slid the ball home on 32 minutes following a darting run and cross from Andy Checketts.

Both sides had chances to win the game in normal time but it was Stourport who created the better opportunities with Kerry Giddings and Mark Crisp both missing out.

But the best chance of the second half fell to the inspirational John Shirley who thundered an effort against the crossbar and then saw visiting keeper Justin Bray keep out his rebound with a fine reflex save.

Swifts (v Sutton Coldfield): O'Malley 8, M Jones 7 (Sayer 72), Powell 7, Webb 7, A Jones 7, Marsh 7, Checketts 8, SHIRLEY 9, Crisp 7, Giddings 7, Lloyd 7 (Willetts 58, Green 63, 7). Subs (not used): Titterton, Parker

Manager Dave Titterton had rested a number of players - possibly as a reward for their demolition of Paulton.

Duncan Willetts led the way against their Somerset visitors with a two-goal blast, his opener a fine effort on 13 minutes that saw him twist and turn inside the area before thumping his shot into the net.

Checketts added a second 11 minutes later with Dan Mason making it 3-0 with a free-kick in first half stoppage time.

Willetts showed some neat skills at the start of the second period and although he was denied on 52 minutes, he made amends two minutes later when he found the target with a delicate lob over Paulton keeper John Rendell.

With former Hereford United ace Shirley again controlling the midfield, it only seemed a matter of time before Swifts added to their tally but, in the end, the fifth goal came courtesy of Paulton - Rendell kicking his clearance straight at defender Nick Bunyard and seeing it rebound over his head into an empty net.
