A TEENAGER who "glassed" a former schoolfriend in a Kidderminster night club and caused a serious eye injury has been sentenced to two years detention.
Martin Isaac,19, of Castle Road, Cookley, near Kidderminster, was convicted after a three-day trial of unlawful wounding on 18-year-old Stuart Bromell in the Mirage night club.
He was also found guilty of headbutting Mr Bromell on the same night in October last year, causing actual bodily harm. The jury at Worcester Crown Court returned unanimous verdicts.
Judge John Cavell said that after the headbutt, Isaac used an unbroken glass as a weapon and thrust it into Mr Bromell's face. His eyeball was cut and an opthalmic surgeon feared that the victim may have future problems.
Nigel Stelling, defending, said Isaac was normally an industrious and well-intentioned young man but drink had played a part in the offence. He had recently started a course with the Prince's Trust.
