THE future of Wychavon Parish Games and the Sports Council is in the balance after 30 years at the centre of sport in the district
An emergency general meeting has been called for next month because, Wychavon Sport secretary Sue Collins said: "We have reached an emergency situation."
All parish councils, associations, schools leagues and anyone else involved with the Parish Games have been asked to send at least one delegate to the meeting to be held at the Civic Centre, Pershore, on Tuesday, November 9, at 7.30pm.
The agenda includes a discussion on the way forward for Wychavon Sport and whether or not the Parish Games should continue.
Ms Collins said George Fraser-Barker had resigned as chairman, they had not had a vice-chairman for a number of years and none of the existing executive committee members was able to take his place.
Numbers on the executive committee had been dwindling over the past few years and new blood was urgently needed. They also needed to take a new look at the Constitution which was now dated.
Ms Collins said in order to access grant aid from Wychavon District Council they needed to draw up a business plan. In order to do that, it was necessary to have a planned way forward.
"We need to take a serious look at the Parish Games," she said. "These take up a lot of time and cost money we can ill afford. For the last few years we have tried to set up a sub-committee to run the Games but no one has come forward, The time has come to make a decision, either a sub-committee is set up with a fairly strict financial agreement, or the Games will not take place in 2005."
