PERSHORE'S Dillons store in the High Street is due to close on Saturday to make way for a Tesco Express.

Conversion work on the building is set to last five weeks. Although Dillons is closing, its post office facility will continue at the new Tesco Express Store. Meanwhile a temporary mobile post office is to be opened in Pershore's car park near the Co-op and Leisure Centre from tomorrow to Thursday, November 18.

Tesco has taken on the staff from Dillons and about ten jobs will be created bringing up the total to about 20 to 25, full-time and part-time workers.

Tesco Express spokeswoman, Fiona Birkett said: "We recognise how important the post office is for customers and have made provision to help during the closure period."

The new store was due to open on Monday, November 22.

Pershore Town Councillor John Smith said Dillons, with a newsagents as well as a post office, would be missed by townsfolk but if they got better facilities he would not grumble.

He said: "What worries me is the post office facilities in the car park. I hope it's convenient for the customers and the public there."
