NEWLY promoted Littleton Borg made the best possible start to their first season in Division One of the Evesham and District Table Tennis Association with a 6-4 victory over Kington Bulldogs.
The result wasn't decided until the final set of the night when Andrew Smith beat Marc Virgo, Rob Sinderberry and Paul Witts but the latter pair both overcame Ernie Smith and Graham Jackson. With Virgo also beating Jackson, the outcome of the match depended on the doubles.
The Smiths took a 2-1 lead 8-11, 11-9, 12-10, but Sinderberry and Witts refused to be denied and hit back to win 11-6, 14-12 and pick up four points.
Bengeworth Reds' Neil Wicks started the season in dynamic form winning his three singles including a 5-11, 12-10, 8-11, 11-8, 14-12 victory over Malcolm Macfarlane to help the Reds to a 7-3 success at Wyre Livewyres.
Graham Briscombe overcame Ken Baker and Andrew Taylor when Evesham Rowing Club visited Littleton Aces but Luke Moffat scored a maximum for the Aces.
Baker and Taylor both got the better of John Buxton while Taylor's 7-11, 11-8, 11-9, 11-4 win over Chris Penny was enough to secure a 6-4 victory for the hosts.
Purple got the better of Blue in the all-Bengeworth clash that also finished 6-4.
Mike Prior, Craig Norledge and Richard Bishop all defeated Aileen Berry but Lynda Reid and Doug Allen both beat all the Blue boys with the latter's 10-12, 11-8, 11-8, 5-11, 11-9 victory over Bishop the only singles to go the full five sets.
