Things seem to have a way of mysteriously disappearing in West Malvern - and then, as often as not, enjoying a re-incarnation. First it was Raglan House on Westminster Bank, soon to rise again as a media centre - with its basement as a permanent home for the Leapfrogs pre-school play group, thanks to the generosity of owner Paul Farrer. Then it was the letter box by the Post Office, now replaced by the new pillarboX. Now it is the pair of wrought iron gates at the southern entrance to the churchyard from West Malvern Road, which vanished last week, raising fears they had been stolen.

Happily, no! They have been transported to Morgans blacksmiths at Barnards Green for shot-blasting of the old rusted paintwork before being to re-painted and re-installed. Less likely to be reversed, however, is the recent theft of the head of yet another one of the gas lamps in Harcourt Road. Moves are afoot to have the heads of all West Malvern's 25 lamps welded to the standards to prevent further losses.

Posters will shortly be appearing round the village inviting residents' suggestions for the revitalisation of West Malvern. This is an informal consultation by the group of people who earlier this year showed an interest in a possible Parish Plan and met to consider how to take matters forward. Ideas and suggestions on any relevant issues can be left at the church, either of the two village pubs, or with David Woosey (the group's acting chairman) at 133 West Malvern Road. Contributions will be collected after a month and the group will then meet again to consider possible further action. Anyone interested in getting involved in this initiative could contact David Woosey on 566187.
