THE booklet, Organs of Malvern Priory, has gone on sale, just as the newly refurbished instrument is being enjoyed.
The book has been written by Dr Tony Hughes and is loosely based on Richard Dacey's 1979 History of Organs at Malvern Priory, now out of print, though much expanded.
The inclusion of anecdotes and incidental information about the personalities and happenings in and around the Priory should appeal to a wide audience, while the detailed technical information will gratify the organ enthusiasts.
The 28-page booklet is extensively illustrated with colour pictures, including paintings by Louis Hamand of the 1927 organ reconstruction.
Dorset-born Dr Hughes moved to Malvern to work at the Royal Radar Establishment, forerunner to today's QinetiQ, retiring in 2000.
He is interested in nature and photography, and trips to parts of Europe have resulted in illustrated lectures to clubs and societies.
He is also a leading member of the Hardy Orchids society and is responsible for developing and maintaining its website.
Proceeds from the booklet, published by the Friends of Malvern Priory, will support the music of the Priory. It is available, at £3, from the Priory bookstall or by post (price £3.50) from Dr Hughes on 01886 832647.
