BOTH teams at the top of Division One of The Soccer Site Malvern Football League collected maximum points on Sunday.
Oak Allstars travelled to Morgan Aero 8 and took the lead with a penalty from Zeki Koral. This was followed up with two goals from Neil Gardiner. His first was a good shot from distance, while his second was a tap-in after the home goalkeeper had saved twice from him, but was then unable to prevent Gardiner's third effort finding the net.
The best goal of the game came from Oak Allstars sub James Dean, who hit a cracking shot from 20 yards. James Argent pulled one goal back for the home side but they were unable to score again against Oak Allstars, who went on to comfortably take all three points and retain their 100 per cent record.
Bishops Frome were made to fight much harder when they entertained Bell Inn 98 at home. Bishops Frome took the lead in the 10th minute when Chris Jefferson put Matt Beale through and he smashed the ball in from 10 yards.
Bell Inn 98 equalised when Chris Grubb beat two players before knocking the ball past the keeper. They then took the lead when, following a goalmouth scramble, Darren Cooke scored. When Luke Ledbury, in the Bell goal, saved a Jason Westmacott penalty it looked like Bishops Frome's recent run of poor form would continue as they went in at half-time 2-1 down.
It took until the 65th minute for them to equalise when Matt Beale squared the ball to Stewart Graham, who from six yards out slotted the ball past the keeper. Matt Beale then cut through and fed Stewart Graham, who from 12 yards gave the keeper no chance to give Bishops Frome the lead.
Bell Inn continued to battle and Ashley Jones sent in a shot that saw the home keeper Steven Green make a superb save to keep the lead for Bishops Frome. They finally made the game safe in the 88th minute, when Matt Beale ran onto a long through ball and volleyed the ball home from 25 yards.
These results set up next Sunday's meeting between the top two sides at Bishops Frome. This should be a good contest, as with the teams only playing each other twice this season, both sides will be going all out.
Division Two saw the only other 100 per cent team, Perowne Park Rangers, score a less than convincing 3-0 victory over the bottom team Keys Victoria. A landslide seemed on the cards when, after only 20 seconds, Daniel Geisler put the ball through to Mike Dean who made no mistake with his shot. Mike Dean was again on target for the second goal with a very good individual effort, beating several players before slotting the ball home. Johnny Murphy made it 3-0 before half time and James Cale missed the chance to make it 4-0 when his penalty hit the bar. Despite lots of shots from Rangers, the anticipated second-half onslaught did not follow as they found Keys Victoria's defence in resolute mood and the scoreline remained at 3-0.
Keyz 04 entertained All Star Misfits and following a good all round display, they took the points with a convincing 5-0 victory. Rob Kelly gave them the lead with a good shot and then Andy Lancett raced through, finding the back of the net with a superb chip over the advancing keeper. It became 3-0 when Chris Golding beat the offside trap. The same player made it 4-0 early in the second half when he finished off a fine passing move. Keyz were well on top and they were denied by some wayward finishing, especially by Chris Golding who was attempting to get his hat-trick. His opportunity finally arrived when Keyz were awarded a penalty and he gleefully converted.
The other game at Sling Lane was a much tighter affair with Belmont Keys finally triumphing over visitors Fromes Hill 2-1. Belmont's first goal was a characteristic Dave Perera effort as he raced onto a ball up the slope before shooting home. Belmont's second was a real 25-yard screamer from Gavin Smith who received the ball from Rob Jones before finding the top corner of the net. Fromes Hill pulled one back when Shaun Taylor scored from just inside the area but despite all their efforts Belmont took the points in what was a good game.
