THE report that Herefordshire Council is to move the Ledbury library out of the Elizabeth Browning Institute into a portable building on St Katherine's car park is alarming news for the town. Let us hope your eminently sensible editorial on the subject will be heeded by the council.
While appreciating the difficulty, indeed impossibility, of disabled access to a Listed building, to even consider a move to a car park is out of the question.
The £40,000 cost is most probably underestimated; the 'temporary' building would probably be there for years and for the town to lose any more parking facilities is quite unacceptable.
Certainly a long term answer to the future of the library and disabled access thereto is required but, at the present time, the council should reconsider a hasty decision.
