A scheme to prevent people being intimidated by 'trick or treat' youngsters has been launched in the Malvern Hills area.
Police and the Neighbourhood Watch Association have published a 'No Trick or Treat' poster for people who do not want to take part in what is becoming a traditional Halloween activity.
The poster can be displayed on windows or doors warning trick or treaters not to call at the property.
Malvern Neighbourhood Watch co-ordinator Clive Marlow said: "Some elderly people who would prefer not to have calls by trick or treaters can put the posters up.
"It's not intended to stop trick or treating, it's more to protect some people who may find it distressing, or do not fully understand it."
Malvern Age Concern spokesman George Waugh said: "I'm all for something like this. In principle it's a tremendous idea. Anything that deters people from causing stress to the elderly is good news."
Police spokesman PC John Westlake said: "The police are not trying to stop young people having fun.
"All we're asking is that they do it in a responsible way and respect the wishes of those who do not want to join in."
Malvern residents wanting a poster should contact Clive Marlow on 01684 562808. He is also hoping to deliver a supply to post offices in the area.
People in the Upton area should contact Neighbourhood Watch co-ordinator Mary Wilkinson on 01684 593704.
