AS the landlord and resident of 111 Belmont Road, Malvern, I am writing to express my sadness and concern at the planned development of the MOD's North Site.
Apart from being a much valued area of beauty and recreation for local residents, where they can walk and enjoy the serenity and views of the western elevation of the Malvern Hills, the roads in this area will not sustain the increased volume of traffic that 300 plus new houses would generate.
Already, in the three and a half years I have lived on Belmont Road, I have seen a considerable increase in traffic.
There are not many roads around the North Site that one can traverse for any distance without having to pull over for traffic travelling in the opposite direction, such is the parking situation in this area already We already have a coach station at one end of Belmont Road to contend with.
Many mothers and children walk to school along this busy road and additional traffic hazards such as noise and pollution are not welcomed by any of the other residents on Belmont Road that I have spoken with. Traffic calming and parking solutions are already urgently needed.
Malvern is an area of outstanding natural beauty, but it will not remain so for much longer if its borders are continually expanded and its green land destroyed. There are many more suitable areas beyond Malvern, especially towards Bransford and Worcester that would be far better suited to development for housing than North Site. I am certain building 300 plus homes at this site will cause much bitter resentment among local residents.
