NEWTOWN sent Lyppard home shell-shocked with an emphatic victory as they battered their opponents with a barrage of attacks in the opening half.
NEWTOWN SPORTS U16S 7, LYPPARD RANGERS 1
Lee Jenkins scored his first of four after just six minutes when the impressive David Reynolds hit the perfect through ball from 30 yards. Two minutes later Lee Jenkins assisted from a corner for Chris Packer to head home and not long after David Reynolds again passed for Lee Jenkins to score another excellent goal.
Lyppard broke away once in the half that resulted in a penalty but it was well saved by Gareth Jones.
Newtown's fifth was from David Reynolds and then debutante Mickey Pearson scored from inside the box.
Lyppard came out for the second half with more determination but again Newtown scored with the combination of Reynolds to Jenkins. Lyppard got a consolation goal with a well struck drive from outside the box.
The Newtown players voted Lee Jenkins man of the match.
WELLAND JUNIORS 6, OMBERSLEY 0
WELLAND were determined to bounce back from their only defeat of the season and they did so with an emphatic win.
The opening 20 minutes was a scrappy affair but Welland's midfield trio of Josh Kirby, Richard Pitt and Josh Fernie began to control the game and by half time Welland were two up, with headed goals from Josh Fernie and Russell Alderson.
After the break Ombersley attempted a fight back but could find no way past an impressive back line and an ever alert keeper, Ashley Bennett.
Welland weathered the storm and the introduction of the pacey forwards, Joe Waldron and Guy Habbitts added to the visitors' problems with Joe Waldron and Russell Alderson combining particularly well and enabling Russell Alderson to complete his excellent four goal tally.
Josh Fernie completed his brace with another headed goal from a Alderson corner making the final score 6-0.
Man of the match, sponsored by Butlers Health & Fitness, was Russell Alderson.
MOSTYN RANGERS U16s 1, MALVERN UNITED U16s 1
MALVERN United U16s travelled to Stourport to take on Mostyn on a blustery afternoon when the wind would play as much a part as the players.
Playing the long ball over the top Mostyn gained the upper hand and took the lead after 25 minutes. United were not without their own chances and played some delightful fluent football but the Mostyn back four held firm to half time.
After the break United came out determined to get on level terms. Andy Nolan's burst of speed and links with Liam Harford began to pay dividends and with the introduction of Craig Baker looked promising. Zach Blood was justly rewarded with a precision lob over the keeper from 30 yards giving United a well-deserved equaliser.
Scott Roberts, Josh Stafford, Dom Portman and Ollie Schoolcraft kept any Mostyn counter attack away from United keeper Alex Jenkins who was rarely troubled. Although United pressed for the winner it was not to be.
Man of the match was shared between Dom Portman and Josh Stafford.
MALVERN TOWN WANDERERS U15s 0,
WELLAND JUNIORS U15s 1
MALVERN Town Wanderers entertained Welland Juniors in this local derby at Victoria Park.
The first 20 minutes saw both teams battling and attacking with numerous saved shots and near misses. On 29 minutes Paul Jordan hit the post for Wanderers followed almost immediately by a Welland shot by Ricky Buckland bouncing back off the post at the opposite end. On 30 minutes Lewis Hooper, who up to this point has made some spectacular saves, was beaten by an unstoppable shot from the edge of the area by Ben Marks to make the half time score 0-1.
The second half was evenly matched and it soon became apparent that Welland were quite happy with the one goal lead and spent the remainder of the half keeping a strong Wanderers side at bay.
Man of the match for Welland was captain Liam Paddock.
MALVERN TOWN WANDERERS U14S 1,
NEWTOWN SPORTS COLTS U14S 17
NEWTOWN Sports Colts visited close neighbours Malvern Town Wanderers in what turned out to be a very one sided game.
Although the Wanderers tried hard, the Colts were just too strong as they scored six first half goals through an Allison hat-trick, Newell, Powell and Jaye. Roskams and Powell made way for Baker and Caffull, as the Colts continued to press home their advantage in the second half. Playing some good team football, Crane grabbed a hat-trick and Edwards a brace as the goals continued to flow. Allison snatched his fourth and Jaye his second, with Buckle, Scullion and Caffull all contributing to the tally. However, the biggest cheer of the afternoon was reserved for Johnson, who came out from goal to play up-front for the last 10 minutes, when he notched as he bundled his way through the Wanderers defence. The Wanderers themselves grabbed a late consolation goal, but on the day they were no match against a very disciplined Colts team.
DROITWICH SPA PANTHERS 2,
WELLAND JUNIORS U14s 1
WELLAND'S disappointing start to the season continued as they lost a game that they could and should have won.
A disastrous first 20 minutes proved to be their undoing, defensive errors allowing the home team to take a two goal lead. Only some excellent saves from stand-in keeper Cathal McTernan prevented them falling further behind. Gradually, however, Welland gained a foothold in the game and an excellent Mark Green goal late on in the half gave the visitors every chance.
After the interval Welland at times exerted enormous pressure on the Droitwich goal. However a combination of bad finishing and bad luck prevented them from equalising. It was only in the last five minutes that they really showed the required levels of urgency and by then it was clearly not going to be Welland's day. A frustrating afternoon was summed up in the last minute when man-of the-match Green saw his thunderous header rebound off the crossbar, with James Allen's follow-up cleared off the line.
CALLOWBROOK SWIFTS 1,
MALVERN TOWN WANDERERS U13S 1
THIS was a hard fought match played in a blasting wind which affected play.
The Swifts opened with a goal after 20 minutes, neatly slotted home past keeper Wheeler, who was under pressure for much of the game. For the rest of the first half, Malvern were unable to match the physical play of Swifts, although the defensive line-up of Webb, Bakothanesis, Banks, Bottomley, and Titmuss fought hard, and Whittle's efforts were rewarded with injury after only ten minutes.
In the second half, a change of pace occurred after a set piece free kick goal from the ever-reliable Asquith. The last 20 minutes were lively with Ball, Allmark and Asquith feeding Howie and Harwood who were unlucky not to score. By the end of the match though a draw was a fair reflection of a game in which neither side found their best form. Malvern's sponsors are Foilcraft.
NEWTOWN SPORTS JUNIORS U12S 3,
NEWTOWN SPORTS COLTS U12S 3
BOTH sides remain unbeaten in the most absorbing of local derbies where the Colts had victory snatched away from them after an amazing Juniors fight back.
Colts got off to a perfect start when Freeman was unable to gather a through ball and Pykett swooped to fire home the loose ball. Colts made it two when Staunston sprung the offside trap to steer the ball home. Illness forced Freeman to leave the field and Joe Kyte's first task was to pick the ball out of the net after Staunston made it three.
The second half was a more even contest with the Juniors winning some decent possession. They clawed they way back into the game when a precise Parker free kick curled into the top corner. With ten minutes remaining Juniors pulled another back when Matt Turner hooked the ball over the advancing keeper and in the very last seconds Turner took advantage of hesitancy in the Colts defence to force the ball home to earn his side a point.
Man of the Match Joe Kyte.
MALVERN TOWN WANDERERS COLTS U10S 2, OLDBURY PARK TIGERS BOYS 1
MALVERN found their form in this lively, evenly matched Mercian League game.
Pete Shepherd was outstanding in goal when the whole of the first half was dominated by the Tigers' attack. Myles Cunningham and Max Howie provided a reliable defensive block, with Brent Gibbs and Brandon Hudson both creating chances by taking the ball down the wings. After the visitors opened the scoring, Joel Wright responded from a Stan Mason cross, which brought the score to one all at half-time.
In the second half, Malvern went on the attack, with Harry Tawse delivering some great runs up the flanks. Speedy Joel Wright made a lovely run and crossed to Stan Mason, who was unlucky not to score. But Brent Gibbs was skilful on the rebound, cooly scoring the second goal for Malvern, giving them their well-deserved first win of the season.
NEWTOWN SPORTS JUNIORS U10s 3,
OLDBURY TIGERS U10s 5
THIS was a really interesting game played in good spirit.
The first half started really well for Newtown, with Jack Davies scoring a good goal after four minutes. As the half went n both teams tried to create chances but Newtown's midfield of Jake Hooper and Chris Jeffreys had the slight edge. With five minutes to go Greg Mifflin scored a fine solo goal. With the half coming to a close Tigers pulled a goal back with an excellent goal from their forward.
Oldbury started the second half with a lot of pressure and scored three quick goals in the first ten minutes taking a 4-2 lead. After this Newtown started to get back in the game and Jack Davies scored to make it 4-3 with a few minutes to go but all chances of Newtown grabbing an equaliser were dashed when Oldbury broke away at the end to score their fifth goal.
Although this was Newtown's first defeat they put up a good performance against a good Oldbury side.
Man of the match was Jake Hooper.
NEWTOWN SPORTS COLTS GIRLS' U10S 2, PERDISWELL & WORCESTER GIRLS' U10S 3
MORE history was made last weekend when Newtown Sports Junior FC fielded an U10 Girls' team in their first ever competitive league fixture.
Playing against Perdiswell & Worcester at Lower Howsell, Newtown struggled to get a grip of the game and Houghton in goal had to make some good saves. As the game progressed, Matthew-Jones, Morse and Evans all began to battle well. However, it was P&W who took the lead through a well taken goal. Newtown battled back and Matthews equalised following a strong run. P&W then increased their lead only for Matthews to grab her second before P&W snatched the lead just before half-time.
In the second half, Newtown had all the play, with some great performance form Crocker, Wickett and Jackson, but they just could not find an equaliser.

LEIGH & Bransford WANDERERS U9S 0,
LEIGH & BRANSFORD BADGERS U9S 9
THE Badgers, inspired by hat-trick hero Daniel Watson, claimed their first victory of the season.
Right from the start the Badgers went on the attack and early on Harry Twinbarrow opened the scoring. This goal was followed by a penalty scored by Daniel Roberts; Adam Larter scored the third goal finishing well from a Daniel Roberts cross. The final goal of the half came from William Eades, taking his chance at the back post well.
After making several changes at half time the Badger continued to press forward and scored further goals through Daniel Watson (three), Fred Van Vuren and Daniel Roberts. Both Fynn Page in goal and Scott Smith in defence for the Wanderers helped keep the score down with some great saves and tackles. The Wanderers continued to battle right to the end and showed a lot of improvement from the last time the teams met.
The Badgers are sponsored by J King.
LEIGH & BRANSFORD BROCKS 1,
NEWTOWN SPORTS JUNIORS 1
WEARING for the first time their new kit supplied by sponsors Specialist Care Services Newtown travelled to Leigh & Bransford for what turned out to be an entertaining and evenly contested match.
Newtown enjoyed some good early possession but as the half progressed Leigh started to gain control of the midfield but found James Merley in fine form in the Newtown goal.
The second half saw Newtown regaining more possession mainly through the tireless Tom Milner, who won the ball to put George Parsons through and he made no mistake with a superb shot from an acute angle to open the scoring. Leigh & Bransford started to put the Newtown defence under more pressure and when Newtown failed to clear a corner the Leigh striker made no mistake to equalise.
The man of the match for Newtown was Tom Milner.
BROMYARD Girls U13s lost their opening league game 5-0 at Bredon Colts.
Town goalkeeper Winnie Cowley pulled off a string of fine saves in the second half, captain Clare Almond worked tirelessly all game in midfield and attacker Cassey Lewis making her league debut impressed.
