AS the current golfing season draws to a close, The Worcestershire Golf Club's October Medal competition was combined with the Rabbit's Cup - a competition for the higher handicap players.
Three players returned below par scores to top Division One. Stan Jones and Steve Bradshaw both returned scores of 67 but Steve was declared the winner, with Stan in second place, on the usual count back system. In third place was former club captain Brian Evans who returned a score of 69. The junior captain Steven Lane fought out a very competitive duel with his fellow long-hitting junior player, Jamie Dunster. On this occasion Steven returned a one under par score of 70 to achieve fourth place, with Jamie in fifth place with a one over par score of 72.
The best score in Division Two was returned by Paul Meakin. Paul was the only player to return a below par score and his 70 was three strokes better than Chris Hardy who came second. Alan Taylor was third with a 74.
The winner of the Rabbit's Cup headed Division Three. Nick Goodwin returned the only below par score in the Division. Nick was in good form returning a score of 70, four strokes better than Clive Taylor who came second with Bob Marriott third.
Scores in the Ladies' October Medal were well below the standard the ladies have returned throughout the summer.
Former club champion Cathy Harris won Division One with a net 75 with Veronica Shaw in second place and Pauline Belsham third. Former lady captain Janet Clowrey came fourth.
In Division Two, Joan Haworth and Hazel Cartledge both returned scores of 75, but after the count back, Hazel was placed second and Joan third. Jenny Bunyan returned the best score of the day, a 73, to win the Division by two clear shots.
Club director Ann Goode came fourth in Division Three with the ever improving Trina Smith in third place. Lady consistency herself, April Wilding came second, with Faith Tubb the winner by four clear shots.
The Seniors' team had a very enjoyable and competitive golf match away at Leominster, halving the match four games all. The acting captain, Barry Fletcher, led from the front with an impressive win by four matches to three.
Barry was partnered by Andrew Reeve. Tony Crisp and Braz Pereira also won their game by impressive margin of four and three. There were also wins for Peter Cross partnered with Brian Piner, and Simon Porter with Euan McClelland.
Both teams enjoyed a very impressive meal in Leominster's relatively new clubhouse.
