THE second event of Malvern Concert Club's 102nd season features a string quartet with the very best of reputations.
The Sorrel Quartet, an all-female group formed in 1987, has taken the British and international scene by storm and is now one of the top-ranked ensembles in the world.
The group is well known for the spontaneity, fiery commitment and powerful atmosphere it brings to its performances, and is equally welcome at festivals, major concert venues and recording studios.
For the Malvern concert, the quartet will open with three attractive short pieces (the Divertimendi) from Benjamin Britten's early years, followed by a performance of one of Brahms's masterpieces, the tuneful C minor Quartet.
In the second half of the evening, the Sorrel will be joined by young Belgian clarinettist Ronald van Spaendonck, whose playing so impressed BBC listeners that he was made one of their New Generation artists. Together, they will perform Mozart's Clarinet Quintet in A, K581.
Club spokesman Ernie Kay said: "This concert should not be missed and may be depended upon to maintain the high standards set by the Florestan Trio in the recent first concert of the club's season."
The event is on Thursday, October 21, at Malvern Theatres, starting at 7.30pm.
Tickets are £14, £13 concs, students £5 from 01684 892277 or www.malvern-theatres.co.uk.
