DAVID Suchet, known to millions of viewers around the world as Hercule Poirot, was last seen in Malvern playing Salieri in Amadeus.
Now he returns for another major theatrical event - the first professional production of Terrence Rattigan's Man and Boy for more than four decades.
The play, which made its original run in 1963, has been described by Bernard Levin as "one of the most fascinating pieces of theatre in many years", and Rattigan himself predicted that it would one day be hailed as his best work.
Through Rattigan's beautifully constructed scenes, the audience is transported to Manhatten in the 1930s, a world of money and power.
Gregor Antonescu is a financier whose advice is sought by presidents and kings, but his son, Basil Anthony, disowned him after a bitter family row five years previously.
One night Basil, home in his rundown apartment, hears that his father's empire is on the brink of collapse. When the father arrives at his door, man and boy find themselves in a confrontation that will change their lives forever.
Starring alongside David Suchet are Ben Silver-stone, Colin Stinton, Emma Ferguson, Jennifer Lee Jellicorse, Will Huggins and David Yelland. The play is directed by Maria Aitken, one of our leading stage, film and TV actresses.
Man and Boy is at the Festival Theatre from October 25-30.
