LUKE Narraway returns to Sixways today expecting a roasting from his father!
The 21-year-old, who came through the academy system at Worcester before heading off to Gloucester two years ago, makes his return to Sixways with the Kingsholm side for today's Premiership clash.
However, his dad Ian, who owns a butcher's shop in St John's, is a former Worcester player and now a season ticket holder at Sixways. Despite his son running out for the opposition, there's little doubt where his loyalties lie!
"I'll be shouting on Worcester, there's no doubt about it," said Ian. "If Luke gets on then I might have to think about it for a little while, but I'm Worcester through and through and it means more to me than anything to be honest."
Narraway jnr was one of Worcester's brightest prospects before leaving three seasons ago to further his career under former Sixways mentor Carl Douglas.
Douglas left for Kingsholm after academy work at Worcester and swooped for Luke once he left school at King's.
The back-row forward made his first team debut for Gloucester at Leeds in the Premiership in May 2003 and has graduated to the England Under 21s, appearing in both the Six Nations and the World Championship.
Narraway admits, however, that returning to his old stamping ground will be a strange experience.
"It's going to be weird," he said. "I started playing for Worcester in the under 10s after watching my dad play. I've been back once, when I played an under 21 game in my first season for Gloucester, but I think today's game will be a bit different with a full house! It's exciting for the family but I know dad will be cheering for Worcester, he's supported them all his life!"
After spending most of his life in the Faithful City, Narraway is delighted that the Warriors have finally cemented their place in the Premiership.
"They are the first team I look out for," he said. "They've done well since they've come up and I know that Gloucester are taking them very seriously. Our coach Dean Ryan watched four videos on Worcester this week and he knows they are a well-drilled side.
"Worcester may not have any superstars but they have a very professional team and coaching structure and we know that it is a real banana skin for us.
"I'm enjoying my time with the Cherry and Whites. My contract is up at the end of the season so I'd like to stay and continue my career at Gloucester."
