A general meeting of Cleeve Prior parishioners was held in the schoolroom on Thursday evening at which the Rev. A. C. Style (vicar) presided. He stated that the committee appointed at the previous meeting had met twice and after due consideration of the report made by the architect upon the state of the tower and nave which were described at being in such a condition that they demanded almost immediate restoration, they had passed a resolution recommending that his report on the work necessary for the restoration of the church be adopted, and that further steps be taken to collect funds at once.

Evesham made its second great effort on behalf of the Evesham Hospital on Friday and Saturday. Unfortunately, Saturday's proceedings were greatly marred by rain, but this had no detrimental effect on those participating in the jollifications. The proceeds of this year's gala was to help liquidate the debt of about £2,500 still outstanding. There was again a spirit of co-operation and enthusiasm. The townspeople gave themselves over to fun and jollity. Over the gates of the town might have been written: "Abandon care all ye who enter here."

There were 500 entries, a record number, for the eighth annual Great Comberton fruit and flower show on Saturday afternoon. By kind permission of Mr. E. Wright, the event was held in Brailes Orchard, where the show marquee and stalls were pitched, the Village Hall being utilised for the serving of teas and refreshments. Proceeds were equally divided between the church, the Village Hall fund and flower show funds. The Rev E. D. Panter, Rector of the Combertons, who opened the event, referred to the fact that proceeds would aid the church and said he was glad that this recognition of the significance of the 600-year-old church in local life had been given.

A public appeal went out this week to raise an extra £16,000 on top of the £190,000 to build the new extension at the Wallace House youth and community centre in Oat Street, Evesham. The extra money is needed to meet the new contract price since the original builders have gone out of business. Mr. H. King, chairman of the appeals committee, said work would start almost immediately. "The project has already been delayed about a month and we do not anticipate opening the new extension before September or October next year," he said. In the meantime there was still the problem of raising the £16,000 plus the £30,000 they were still short on the original appeal.
