100 Years Ago August 27, 1904
On the new railway, near Peasebrook Farm, two roadway lads were on Tuesday evening at work under a construction train greasing two hot wheels when without notice the driver started. One lad, Percy Hill, at once lay down in the four-foot way and escaped unhurt, but the other, William Glover, aged 20, clung to and yelled to the driver. His cries were heard and the train stopped, but not till he had sustained serious injuries from bumping against the sleepers.

The Worcester, Massachusetts, Boy Scouts, who are being entertained in Worcester by the Sports Fellowship, were taken to Warwick, Stratford-on-Avon and Broadway on Friday, being entertained by Madame de Navarro at Broadway. The boys visited all the usual places in Stratford and Warwick and were enamoured with all they saw, and the manner of their reception. There was an amusing, but yet unfortunate, incident on the lake in front of Madame do Navarro's home. Three of the scouts who started out punting fell in the water and received a thorough drenching.

August 28, 1954
Mr George Freeman, one of the churchwardens of Hinton, was at work at Sedgeberrow Garage on Friday morning last pumping a wheelbarrow tyre when the metal burst. He was taken to hospital and detained until the following day. He had an X-ray examination and an operation to remove pieces of metal from his hand, and 14 stitches were put in. The explosion also smashed his front teeth and bruised and cut his face. He is now going satisfactorily.

Wychavon council tenants are clamouring to buy their houses following the approval recently of a scheme which offers up to 50 per cent discounts. Mr G Westwood, Wychavon secretary, said yesterday that the council had received a total of 433 "expressions of interest" from tenants in the last few weeks in addition to the 100 which were being processed when the new scheme was announced.
