Evesham Utd 3, Saltash Utd 1

THE Robins found their shooting boots to bank £1,000 while booking a place in the first qualifying round of this seasons FA Cup at Common Road last Saturday.

On the down side, though, St Blazey's surprise win at Paulton Rovers leaves Dave Busst's side to contemplate a trip into Cornwall on Saturday, September 18 if they are to claim a further £2,250.

The match was over as a contest by half-time when the hosts led heir lower-ranked rivals 2-0 courtesy of goals from Danny Williams and Leon Blake.

Manager Busst was again without Gavin O'Toole and top scorer Lee Ross, but the ease with which United made progress gave Andy Smith, Simon Fitter and Tobias McIntosh the chance to get in some welcome action on the field.

Jermaine Clarke, who made way for McIntosh seven minutes before the break, set up Williams for the 15th minute opener and the scorer was only denied a second by the width of the Saltash crossbar and a fine stop by the visiting goalkeeper.

However, the latter was unable to intervene three minutes before the break when Blake raced on to a pass from Leon Thomas and a neat lob doubled Eve-sham's interval advantage.

The home side's cause was helped after 63 minutes when the visitors were reduced to ten men following two yellow cards but it took until the 84th minute for the Robins to score a third when Blake slipped past a couple of defenders before sliding the ball into the net.

Saltash at least had something to look back on after a seven-hour round trip from Plymouth when Chris Menhenick beat Dave Adey four minutes from time. The winners will be hoping they don't endure a similar losing tale when they head south on Saturday week.
