Evesham Utd 0, Taunton Tn 2

A FAILURE to capitalise on several first half chances cost the Robins their unbeaten record at Common Road on Tuesday night, writes Mervyn Collins.

There was precious little wrong with the performance although returning boss Dave Busst will have been slightly disappointed with his side's display in the opening 25 minutes of the second period.

The impressive Grant Pinkney curled a 13th minute effort against the bar after a forward surge from David Carns, while Tom Clarke's replacement Dave Adey produced a magnificent save to prevent Anthony Lynch breaking the deadlock seven minutes later.

United produced a series of incisive counter-attacks with Jermaine Clarke narrowly adjudged offside before shaving a post with another curling strike.

However, it was the striker who should have given his side the interval lead when, after seeing a shot parried to safety, he screwed another effort wide from ten yards.

Other than a couple of cautions there was little to note after the break until sloppy defending allowed Lynch time and space to beat Adey with an angled drive from ten yards after 73 minutes.

Leon Blake and Anthony Watson both forced saves from Kenny Griffiths before the Town keeper matched Adey's effort with a stunning stop to thwart Clarke seven minutes from time.

The visitors sealed their third win of the season when a mix-up between Carns and Stuart Hamilton allowed Lynch to feed Simon Gale who tapped the ball into the empty net.
